Author Talk: Alice K. Thomas

In 1870, the first classes for Preparatory High School for Colored Youth were organized in a church basement in the District, starting Black students on a life changing journey of academic excellence and personal growth. Many of the graduates became prominent in fields from the arts to the sciences. It also expanded the District's school system.
